Night Springs Country Store and Gas Station

Hello there! The scene was heavily inspired by Remedy's 2010 game Alan Wake and Joakim Stigsson's Golden Gasoline environment.

The project started off as an environment art portfolio, but I enjoyed doing the lighting, making shaders and making blueprints to ease the workflow. The problem-solving aspect of this project was the second most fun part.

The lighting was the most fun one! I learnt a great deal about tone mapper, in-engine colour grading, I didn't use LUTs but I still kept the functionality for flexibility. I used physical light values for luminance and luminance flux and set up exposure values for each lighting scenario accordingly.

I stuck with the in-engine tools since any changes I made remain in Scene Referred Linear Space. The exponential fog is now controlled by the Mie Scattering for some lighting scenarios, although the blueprint still does the changes if the artist desires. I used dynamic lights since it's a huge exterior, I used LPV+SSGI+GTAO for getting good results. LPV values are also controlled in the blueprint as preset values for each lighting scenario. Currently, Night and Golden Hour are the only most worked lighting stages and I'll be posting other ones soon!

For those who are interested, I have a paste-bin blueprint posted here: https://blueprintue.com/blueprint/pgituv50/

I was responsible for all the aspects of this project. I modelled and textured all the props in the scene except for the conifer trees in the background, I took the base model from Koola's project from Speedtree store and modified the textures and reduced some polygons. Rest of the foliage including the foreground pine trees were made in Maya PaintFX and Zbrush. I'll have a separate post for the environment and technical stuff with breakdowns soon!
Thanks for watching, and please do let me know if you have any feedback or any questions!

The Blueprint switch with visual controls. It drives lights, Sky atmosphere, fog, colour grading and filmic tonemapper settings.
